Liz – In Her Own Words
Liz Golden provides insight-focused therapy for adults and couples in Lakewood, Colorado. She is passionate about de-mystifying the therapeutic process and helping clients move from living on “autopilot” to living with clarity and purpose.
“I believe that our personalities and coping strategies don’t develop in isolation. They are shaped by a complex interplay of genetics, environment, and especially our early relational experiences. My goal is to help you map out your internal ‘data’—the thoughts, triggers, and patterns that keep you stuck—and then use a compassionate, curious lens to help you heal those spaces and reconnect with who you truly are.”
The Challenge: Feeling Disconnected and on Autopilot
Many people move through life feeling a little cut off from themselves. Early experiences, chronic stress, or relationship dynamics can shape coping strategies that once helped you get through, but now leave you feeling stuck. You might notice anxiety, low mood, numbness, people-pleasing, or a nagging sense that you have lost direction. This disconnection can also show up in relationships, as emotional pain, conflict, or difficulty trusting and feeling close.
The Solution: Warmth, Insight, and Practical Clarity
In therapy with me, you will find a supportive space to slow down and make sense of what is happening beneath the surface. I draw from attachment-based therapy and a research background to help you understand the “why” behind your patterns, without judgment or blame. Together, we will connect the dots between your experiences and your current reactions, then build new ways of relating to yourself and others that feel healthier and more aligned.
The Result: More Connection, Confidence, and Meaning
As you gain insight and self-compassion, change becomes more possible. Many clients begin to feel more grounded, more emotionally present, and more able to communicate needs and boundaries. By understanding the “story beneath the story,” you can move from feeling overwhelmed or stuck to feeling more connected, more resilient, and clearer about what you want from your life and relationships.
Experience: Where Research Meets Real-Life Healing
Liz brings a thoughtful blend of relational warmth and research-informed perspective to her clinical work.
Relational Insight: Before becoming a counselor, Liz spent over a decade interviewing people from diverse backgrounds to understand behavior, decision-making, and patterns over time. She now brings that same curiosity and clarity into therapy, helping clients navigate interpersonal conflict and relationship challenges with more understanding and less reactivity.
Attachment-Focused Clinical Work: Liz’s clinical approach is grounded in attachment science. She specializes in working with developmental and childhood trauma and helps clients gently loosen long-standing coping strategies that once protected them, but now limit connection and well-being.
Family Dynamics & Relationship Growth Liz specializes in helping individuals and couples navigate the complexities of family life, from managing sibling rivalry and parenting challenges to strengthening partner bonds. She provides a supportive space to process the emotional strain of major life transitions, including the unique stressors associated with the infertility journey and evolving family roles.
Liz’s Favorite Quote

“Let the hard things in life break you. Let them affect you. Let them change you. Let these hard moments inform you. Let this pain be your teacher. The experiences of your life are trying to tell you something about yourself… What is the lesson in this wind? What is this storm trying to tell you? What will you learn if you face it with courage? With full honesty and – lean into it”
More than Just My Work:
Outside the therapy room, Liz enjoys spending time with her two dogs and exploring the outdoors—whether snowboarding in the mountains, hiking, or taking spontaneous road trips. She nurtures her creative side through music and art, playing piano, ukulele, and guitar, and has recently taken up watercolor painting. And she’s never met a potato she didn’t like.
